milwaukee riverwalk on the menomonee river

menomonee valley design charette
The Menomonee Valley Design Charette outlines a vision to sustainably transform more than 40 acres of land on five vacant or underutilized riverfront sites as well as streetscaping for the St. Paul Avenue corridor. Concepts highlight potential for the next phase of Menomonee Valley revitalization, including new businesses, an extension of the RiverWalk along the Menomonee River, and physical connections to adjacent neighborhoods.
career discovery initiative
Employers are in the midst of a labor shortage at the skilled and entry-level positions. Each have a goal to build awareness about careers through outreach to Milwaukee youth. Menomonee Valley Partners builds relationships between local youth and the Valley’s skilled labor force to inspire more youth to pursue high-demand careers. Our Career Discovery Initiative suite of programs includes: Manufacturing Career Days, Engineering Career Days, Young Women in STEM, Young Women in Manufacturing, Construction and Trades Tours, and Valley Lunch & Learns.
Business networking & services
MVP promotes economic development by offering resources and services to Valley businesses and their employees. These programs help businesses grow in place and supplement employee offerings that help with recruitment and retention, such as professional development and meaningful volunteer opportunties. A variety of programs and activities meet the unique needs of the Valley businesses.
Business recruitment & technical assistance
MVP recruits businesses that strengthen the region’s manufacturing sector, provide family-supporting jobs, and high employment densities. MVP markets privately and publicly owned properties for sale or lease. Once a business chooses to locate in the Valley, MVP assists the company with the development process, from identifying available funding sources to providing guidance through the city permitting process, and eases the company’s transition to the Valley through assistance with employee services, from transportation planning to new business networks.
Marketing
The Menomonee River Valley is a local sustainable economic and environmental effort that has received national attention. MVP provides education, outreach, and marketing regarding the needs and accomplishments of the Valley, including newsletters, events, this website, tours, and presentations to legislators, professional associations, local civic groups, and at national conferences.
valley 2.0 Plan
The Valley 2.0 Plan, the City of Milwaukee’s market study and land use plan adopted in 2015, sets a strategic framework to continue positioning the Valley as an innovative, sustainable, and successful urban industrial center. The plan builds on the Valley’s resources and momentum to chart a course for elevating the Menomonee River Valley into one of the most innovative, successful, and recognized urban industrial centers in the United States.
burnham canal wetland initiative
Located on the southeastern edge of the Valley, the Burnham Canal is a former shipping canal that is no longer in use. This project is transforming the Canal from the 11th St bridge west to the end of the canal back into a wetland. This is an environmental remediation project that is a joint project between the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Miller Compressing, and the US Army Corps of Engineers.
