In 1998, the City of Milwaukee developed a Master Plan for the Valley, with the support of the Menomonee Valley Business Association. The Menomonee Valley Business Improvement District (BID #26) was formed by Valley business and property owners in 1999 as a means to harness support for the revitalization of the Valley and implement the recommendations of that plan. The objectives of the BID focus on long-term redevelopment efforts and projects, as well as building a coalition of property owners invested in the Valley’s and each other’s growth.
The BID and Menomonee Valley Partners share strategic goals, partner on projects, and celebrate collaborative successes.
BID #26 Boundaries
The BID #26 boundaries are W St. Paul Avenue on the north, 6th St. on the east, Virginia/Pierce/Bruce St. on the south and Selig Dr. on the west.
BID Staffing & Administration
The BID is a quasi-governmental agency and is governed by a board of eight directors, reflective of the variety of Valley businesses that are approved by the City of Milwaukee’s Mayor’s Office. The BID leverages funds through its authority to levy a special assessment on each non tax-exempt property in the district; each tax key is assessed a percentage of total assessed property value. Assessments are included in the property’s tax bill. The District Board uses a special assessment formula, whereby each tax key number parcel is assessed the rate of $1.65 per $1,000 in assessed property value, subject to a minimum assessment per tax key number parcel of $400 and a maximum assessment per tax key number parcel of $4,000.
Menomonee Valley Partners, Inc. (MVP) staffs the BID. MVP was created in 1999 as a public-private partnership to facilitate the revitalization of the Menomonee River Valley. The BID contracts with MVP to implement its programs.
